Miss Sahuaro 2008
Katie Blodgett
Platform: Fight Against Hunger
Miss Sahuaro 2008. Katie Blodgett would like to
join your troop to talk about the issue of
hunger and to organize a troop food drive. Her
presentation can be modified for any age group.
Katie Blodgett is Dean’s List Honors student at
the University of Arizona, and a former Girl
Scout. She is currently pursuing a dual degree
with a B.S. in Marketing from the Eller College
of Management and a B.F.A. in Musical Theatre
from the College of Fine
Arts. Katie is also an active member of the
Arizona Repertory Theatre, Order of Omega (a
national leadership honorary), the Chimes Junior
Honorary, the current secretary for the
University of Arizona chapter of Gamma Sigma
Alpha (a national academic honorary), and the
Director of Internal Relations for the National
Collegiate Leadership Conference. Now, as Miss
Saguaro 2008, a local title for the Miss America
Organization, Katie finds herself continuing her
efforts to educate others on the Fight Against
Hunger - a cause she has felt strongly about
since running the Guinness World Record Largest
Canned Food Drive in San Mateo, California.
Katie is a volunteer for the Tucson Community
Food Bank, the Giving Tree’s Project FEED, and
is a student chair for the University of
Arizona’s UA4Food program.

Erin Nurss
Platform: Healthy Habits: Promoting Health and
Wellness in Youth

Miss
Tucson Valley, Erin Nurss is
passionate about educating girls on nutrition
and wellness. She enjoys inspiring young women
to take care of their bodies by eating right.
Erin has presented at outreach troop meetings in
South Tucson and enjoyed the interaction with
our Girl Scouts. Erin’s presentation can be
tailored to any age level from Daisy to
Senior.
Erin is a graduate
of the University of Arizona with a degree in
Nutrition and is currently a graduate student in
the UA’s College of Public Health. She is
currently Miss Tucson Valley and is preparing
for the Miss Arizona competition in June. She
believes that the role of Miss Tucson Valley is
to be an advocate of her personal platform,
while also serving as a role model for young
women in this community. As part of her
participation in the Miss America Organization,
Erin has selected a community service platform
of “Healthy Habits: Promoting Health and
Wellness in Youth.” Over the course of three
years, she has spoken with over 3,500 students
and adults about the importance of a healthy
lifestyle, and is excited about the opportunity
to speak with the Girl Scouts in Tucson!
