Miss Sahuaro 2008
Katie Blodgett

Platform: Fight Against Hunger

Miss Sahuaro 2008. Katie Blodgett would like to join your troop to talk about the issue of hunger and to organize a troop food drive.  Her presentation can be modified for any age group.

Katie Blodgett is Dean’s List Honors student at the University of Arizona, and a former Girl Scout. She is currently pursuing a dual degree with a B.S. in Marketing from the Eller College of Management and a B.F.A. in Musical Theatre from the College of Fine Arts. Katie is also an active member of the Arizona Repertory Theatre, Order of Omega (a national leadership honorary), the Chimes Junior Honorary, the current secretary for the University of Arizona chapter of Gamma Sigma Alpha (a national academic honorary), and the Director of Internal Relations for the National Collegiate Leadership Conference. Now, as Miss Saguaro 2008, a local title for the Miss America Organization, Katie finds herself continuing her efforts to educate others on the Fight Against Hunger - a cause she has felt strongly about since running the Guinness World Record Largest Canned Food Drive in San Mateo, California. Katie is a volunteer for the Tucson Community Food Bank, the Giving Tree’s Project FEED, and is a student chair for the University of Arizona’s UA4Food program.

Miss Tucson Valley, Erin Nurss is passionate about educating girls on nutrition and wellness.  She enjoys inspiring young women to take care of their bodies by eating right.  Erin has presented at outreach troop meetings in South Tucson and enjoyed the interaction with our Girl Scouts.  Erin’s presentation can be tailored to any age level from Daisy to Senior.

Erin is a graduate of the University of Arizona with a degree in Nutrition and is currently a graduate student in the UA’s College of Public Health. She is currently Miss Tucson Valley and is preparing for the Miss Arizona competition in June. She believes that the role of Miss Tucson Valley is to be an advocate of her personal platform, while also serving as a role model for young women in this community. As part of her participation in the Miss America Organization, Erin has selected a community service platform of “Healthy Habits: Promoting Health and Wellness in Youth.” Over the course of three years, she has spoken with over 3,500 students and adults about the importance of a healthy lifestyle, and is excited about the opportunity to speak with the Girl Scouts in Tucson!

Check out Erin volunteering at the Nash Elementary School troop.  She shared great tips on nutrition and wellness to keep girls Fit, Fueled and Fabulous!
